Autumn gardening tasks

Autumn has arrived and the cooler weather is just around the corner, which means there is a lot to be done in the garden!

One of the first things that springs to mind when we think of autumn is the leaves falling from our deciduous trees. As beautiful as it is watching the foliage change colour and eventually fall, the clean up can be tedious and time consuming. But did you know the fallen leaves can be composted and added back to your garden?

Composting your leaves is not only a fun project for the family, but it’s also great for the environment and your garden. The best way to compost your leaves is to pick up one of our Compost Bins. Simply place it in a sunny spot, put some leaves inside, add a layer of soil and water it all in well to get started.

After a harsh summer it’s likely your vegie garden is looking a bit worse for wear. It’s time to take them out and start preparing your winter vegetable garden! Add a few bags of organic matter, such as cow manure or Grow Better Pure Magic Compost and use a shovel to turn it over until it is all mixed through.

Once your soil is ready it’s time to start planting your favourite vegetables! Autumn is the perfect time of year to plant broad bean, beetroot, cabbage, carrot, cauliflower, broccoli and so much more. Once you have finished planting it’s time to mulch your vegetable garden with sugarcane, which we sell in compressed bales.
