Brand spotlight: FormBoss Garden Edging

Proudly Australian owned and manufactured in Victoria since 2005 using BlueScope steel, FormBoss products are a premium modular steel garden edging system, thoughtfully designed to last and trusted by DIYers and professionals alike.

FormBoss products feature a rolled top lip that covers the stakes and connectors, leaving no sharp edges, making them safe for pets and children. REDCOR “weathering” steel is made in Australia by BlueScope and is a natural fit for the contemporary Australian landscape. This corrosion-resistant, rustic-looking steel is also commonly referred to as “corten”.

Whether you’re adding a tree ring, shaping a new garden, or refining what’s already there, FormBoss products give you the freedom to create and finish with precision.

Tree Rings

FormBoss REDCOR Tree Rings are thoughtfully designed to be practical and easy to install. Rings from 75mm to 185mm high are made from 1.6mm gauge steel, while the taller 230mm to 850mm options use a heavier 2.0mm gauge for added strength.

Each ring is supplied unjoined, making it simple to position around existing trees or create circular planter beds without disruption.

Installation tools

One of the standout features is how easily it can be installed by a single person. There’s no need to rely on a friend for help or bring in a professional. Just a shovel, a sharpie, a pair of vice grips, a mallet, an 8mm magnetic hex head driver, a drill or impact driver, plus a metal file (optional), angle grinder or hacksaw, along with a pair of gloves and a can do attitude.

Yep, pretty much what you probably already have at home, no specialty tools required. Chances are you will not need all of them, the ideal set of tools will come down to preference, experience and the specifics of your project. Most shaping can be easily done on site.

Garden Edging

The FormBoss system is designed to work together intuitively, with sections that slot into one another and come pre-drilled with screws for straightforward installation.

All lengths are 2440mm, and all screws, rivets and connectors are included, so you have everything you need to get started. Edging is available in three gauges (steel thickness) to suit different applications. As a guide, allow around one third of the edging height to sit below ground, so keep this in mind when selecting your profile height.

  • 1.6mm with a 5.5mm rolled edge: ideal for defining garden edges. Easy to shape and great value. Available in heights: 75mm, 100mm, 150mm, 185mm
  • 2.0mm with a 6.5mm rolled edge: suited to stronger, more defined lower edges. Ideal for driveways or commercial settings, and for retaining in taller profiles. Available in heights: 75mm, 100mm, 150mm, 185mm, 230mm, 290mm, 390mm and 580mm
  • 2.5mm with a 7.5mm rolled edge: designed for maximum strength in heavily trafficked or commercial areas and more demanding retaining applications. It also provides added stability for long straight runs. Available in heights: 100mm, 150mm, 185mm, 230mm, 290mm, 390mm and 580mm

Once you have selected your height and profile, choose the right stakes for your project:

  • Flat tapered stakes: Suited to profiles from 75mm to 185mm. Each stake is secured 25mm from the base of the edging with a tek screw, sitting below soil level for a clean, low-profile finish
  • Angled retaining stakes: Made from 3mm gauge steel with a 90º angle, these are stronger than traditional star pickets and integrate neatly with the FormBoss system

Corners

To help bring everything together neatly, FormBoss also offers a range of corner options to suit different layouts.

For clean, structured designs, 90º corners create sharp angles, ideal for raised beds, pathways or defined garden zones. For softer, more natural layouts, curved corner pieces allow you to maintain smooth, flowing edges without needing to cut or shape the steel yourself.

Both options are available with the lip facing either inside or outside, so you can choose what suits your layout.

Using pre-formed corners can help save time during installation and create a more consistent finish, especially on more detailed projects.
