Japanese maples are usually grown for their magnificent displays of autumn colour. However they also look wonderful in Spring, when they are covered in lush, new growth. Plant in full sun or partial shade. Keep well watered and mulched. Maples produce more brilliant colours in a cooler climate, especially when frosts occur. Insignificant red flowers, small bright green palmate leaves, changing in Autumn to yellows, oranges and reds. Small Rounded tree, 4 metres x 4 metres in shape. Plant in a well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established. Fertilize when planting and again after new growth appears. Prune tree when planting to encourage new growth.
