Proteas

Protea is a striking flowering plants native to South Africa, captivates with its unique and vibrant blooms, adding a touch of natural splendour.

Among the hardiest and most spectacular Proteas is the Special Pink Ice, a beauty grown specifically for florists due to its abundant blooms. Our collection of Proteas is outstanding, providing great size and value in 250mm pots.

Proteas love to bask in the sun, so give them an open, sunny spot for optimal growth. While they can tolerate some shade, their vibrant colors might not shine as brightly. Waterlogged roots are a big no-no for Proteas. Plant them in well-draining soil, and they'll adapt to various soil types. After planting, spread a layer of mulch around your Protea, keeping it a safe distance from the stem. This mulch blanket suppresses weeds and protects young roots from getting disturbed when you pull out weeds.

Although protea isn’t an Australian native, the Protea family, Proteaceae, includes some of our most recognizable natives such as Banksias, Grevilleas, Hakeas, Macadamia, and the waratah. The Protea is the South African floral emblem and is well-suited to Australian conditions.

Proteas are good performers in central Victoria.  With their bright flowers, vibrant foliage, ease of maintenance, and affordable, they are a delightful addition to your garden and make for a stunning and unforgettable Father's Day gift. Explore our beautiful range at ASQ Garden & Landscape.
